Obituary of Rachel V. Boardman

Rachel (Babette) Boardman, 95, went to be with her Load and Savior on November 27, 2021. She was born October 15, 1926, to David and Winifred (Kennedy) Martin in Bambridge, Ireland. She was raised in New York and graduated from Bronxville High School, Bronxville, New York in 1944. She worked in New York City for seven months for the American Paper and Pulp Association. Rachel met her husband through a friend and was married March 6, 1945, and came west to Fleming, Colorado after her husband got out of the service. She lived on a farm in the Fleming community and raised her family there. In 1971, she came to Greeley and worked for three years and the University of Northern Colorado in Food Services, then worked for the Division of Water Resources for 18 years, retiring on August 31, 1992. She married Earle Maynard Boardman on June 6, 1988. She enjoyed being a volunteer at North Colorado Medical Center for 10 years and a Deacon in the First United Presbyterian Church. She swam in the Senior Olympics for two years and won a bronze medal in 1993 and a silver medal in 1994, both in the four-hundred-meter event. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited several different states and also took two trips to Ireland where she found four half-sisters, a half-brother and stepmother. Survivors are two sons, Steven Harman of Surprise, AZ, Michael (Kelly) Harman of Glenwood Springs, CO; daughter Susan (Bill) Hoover of Muskogee, OK; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are three half-sisters Esther Munslow of Shewsbury, England, Rachel Yuille of Nottingham, England and Joan Phillips of Temple Patrick, Ireland and half-brother Robert Martin of North-Hampton, England. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Earle. M. Boardman, son Charles David Harman who died in Viet Nam, daughter-in-law Ann Harman and sister Elizabeth Parker of Ballynahinch, Ireland. Interment will be 10:00am Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sterling, CO. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9th Ave. Greeley, CO.
