Karla, we are so sorry for your loss! Ed could and would talk to anyone about Christ, and was one of the most giving man I have ever met. I have so many great memories of the time we all spent together. He will be missed Brad & Robyn Herman

I was about twelve when I came to visit Karla and Ed. I was interested in becoming a veterinarian and Ed let me tag along for a whole day at the "office." I remember that day so well and how much he taught me. He was so kind to me and let me take pictures of everything. I managed to snap this picture mid-surgery. I had to add the one of Karla too because these two are permanently fixed in my mind from this time. It must have made a monumental impact, because I perfectly remember everything about this trip and am so thankful for this memory of Ed.

I met Dr. Umlauf through a CSU classmate Bob Allison while both still in college. Then later he was an assistant vet to Dr. Suro at Anderson Animal Hospital on Sheridan. Over the years we had a social and veterinary client relationship as he was without any question a talented and capable vet who withstood the recent tendency for vets now mostly gouging their customers! But Ed was much more than a wonderful caring animal surgeon...he was bigger than life in so many respects. I still tell the story about how he, Bob, and I were playing golf at Applewood GC. Ed was having a tough round and he was further aggravated by a couple of big hitting fellows running drives past us. Finally, on 17 fairway, They wizzed a ball right beside him. From the 17 green, Bob and I then witnessed Ed throwing down his clubs, tearing off his shirt, and with a menacing stride approached the fellows on the tee. Bob and I could not hear what he said, only that he was face to face with them, finger pointing in their faces. Next we saw them sit down on the bench. Ed walked back to the green and finished the hole. As we left 18 tee, I looked back and there the two hotshots remained, sitting on the bench! Bravo Ed...you will be incredibly missed.

I can remember how much fun we had working at Anderson Animal Hospital whenever Dr Ed was there. Always light hearted, he brought levity even when the situation was critical. I am so sorry he is gone from all the lives, human and animal, that he touched. Rest easy Dr Ed.
