Obituary of Billy "Ervin" Gonzales

Ervin Dennis Gonzales, 69, of Greeley passed away Tuesday, Jan 4th, 2022. Born on June 23, 1952, son of Francis Sue Olivas and Moses Gonzales. Ervin Gonzales grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He attended UNCo on a wrestling scholarship and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minor in physical education. He was known by many as the garage door man. He started installing garage doors in 1978. He then went on to open his business, Doorway Garage Doors in 1981. Ervin was passionate about the education of his five children. He advocated for a charter school and was one of the founding members of Frontier Academy in 1997. Ervin was diagnosed with scleroderma in 1999; this ultimately led him to research, develop, and sell herbal supplements under his business, SunCatcher Herbs. He was incredibly proud of the supplements which he contributed to his continued health. Ervin loved to work with his hands. He also enjoyed listening to music and writing lyrics. Some of his favorite times were spent with his family eating dinners, watching football, or sitting around a fire. Ervin was incredibly kind whatever was needed, be it remodeling bathrooms, a place to stay, or a warm dinner, he was always the first too offer help. He was preceded in death by mother Francis Olivas, father Moses Gonzales, brothers Thomas Gonzales, Jerry Gonzales, and son Christopher Gonzales. He leaves behind sons Joshua Gonzales of Kansas, Luke Gonzales of Greeley, Gabe Gonzales of Colorado Springs, child Max Weber of Illinois, and three grandchildren. Memorial will take place at 11:00 am on Jan 31, 2022, at City Lights Church. Family and friends are invited to gather following the service. Contributions to the family may be made to Gabriel Gonzales.
