Obituary of Elsie Ochsner

Elsie Ochsner, 88, of Greeley, passed into glory on Wednesday, February, 9, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1933, in Sutton, Nebraska, where she grew up on her family’s farm and at the age of eight was already milking cows and pitching in on a variety of chores from picking melons to canning produce.

She married her husband, Ewald, on September 8, 1956, and spent her life caring for her family, neighbors, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a multitude of flowers and birds. She also worked at Hawthorne Elementary School in Hastings, Nebraska, and later worked at Ace Hardware and at the Novačeks clothing store in David City, Nebraska.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Ewald, parents Otto Griess and Martha (Huber) and brothers Ephraim, Daniel, and Jonathan, and sisters Ruth and Rachel. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Ephraim.

She is survived by her brother Curtis (wife Nadine) and sister Salome (husband John); daughter Linda (husband Albert); two sons, David (wife Margie) and James (wife Jenette); 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Grace Reformed Church in Greeley with a reception to follow at the same location.

Graveside service will take place at 2 PM Friday, February 18, 2022, at Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, Nebraska.
