Obituary of Freida Hergert

Freida Hergert, 96, of Greeley passed to her eternal and Heavenly home April 10, 2022.  She was born October 12, 1925 on the family farm near Bracewell to Jacob and Marie (Sitzman) Geisick. 

Freida attended Greeley schools and met Raymond  Hergert at church.  They were confirmed together at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Greeley.  On February 3, 1946 Freida and Ray were married at St. John’s. 

They farmed and raised cattle with their family south of LaSalle, until retiring and eventually moving to Greeley in 2002.  They traveled extensively throughout the country in their motor home with family and friends.  Freida enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking German dishes, especially noodle soup and butterballs, apple pies and Angel food cakes, all from scratch.  She served three hearty meals a day for many years, always taking care of her family.  The most important to her was time with her family, being a wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherished their time with her. 

Freida was a member of the Farmerettes in Peckham and St. John United Church of Christ Women’s Fellowship for many years. 

Thankful to have shared her life are her children; Joyce Sandau, Richard (Diane) Hergert and Carol (Cris) DiDonato, six grandchildren; Kirk (Tracy) Sandau, Travis (Amy) Hergert, Tawnya (John) Bangert, Josh (Jami) Hergert, Adam DiDonato and Brian (Whitney) DiDonato, ten great-grandchildren; Jakob and Grace Sandau, Anna, Josef and Bennett Hergert, Owen, Logan and Emma Bangert, Morgan and Bailey Hergert, a brother, Gus Geisick and her special friend and caregiver, Rebekah Bickling. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her son-in-law, Gary Sandau and grandson, Craig Sandau, nine brothers and sisters.

Freida’s Life Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Adamson with a luncheon following.  Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Memorial gifts may be made to “Samaritans Purse” in care of Adamson, 2000 47^th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.  Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.
