Obituary of Helen Evelyn Andersen

Helen Evelyn Andersen died peacefully at Grace Pointe Senior Care Community in Greeley, Colorado on

July 10th, 2022. She was born in Sterling, Colorado March 1st, 1923, the oldest of three children to Alvin

and Mary Uhrig. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1940. In 1942 she met her future husband,

Eugene "Andy" Andersen in Greeley. They were married December 20, 1942, in Steamboat Springs.

Helen liked to tell the story of Andy grabbing a wheelbarrow and pushing her down main street after the

ceremony. When Andy was sent overseas she moved back to Sterling. They were married for 70 years

and raised three boys, Ron (Marilyn), David (Barbara) and Keith (Roxanne). In 1960 they bought their

first of four grocery stores. They owned stores in Denver, Firestone, Keensburg, and Hudson. They were

active in the grocery business meeting many new friends. Through those friends they joined a Square

Dancing and Four Wheel club. Helen loved Square Dancing but always was fearful the jeep would roll-

over. Helen worked at their last store until she retired at age 76. After her retirement they moved back

to Greeley where they were both active at the Evans Senior Center. She was a great cook and baker.

She had an adventurous side to her. At age 50 she went parasailing. They travelled to many tun places

with friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and

friends. She was selfless. She always was thinking of others. She is preceded in death by her parents

and her sisters Dorothy Main and Etta Mae Hernandez. She is survived by her sons and daughters in

laws, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Interment will be at
