Obituary of Kathleen Jane Thompson

Kathleen Jane (Schmer) Thompson of Greeley, Colorado, with her loving husband & family by her side, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2022. Kathleen was born in Alliance, Nebraska, on August 22, 1978, to Gary & Deborah Schmer. 

Kathleen lived in Alliance with her family during her childhood and was active in athletics and uplifted and encouraged those around her. She received her bachelor’s in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and became a Certified Financial Planner. She married Joseph Thompson on January 7, 2004, and later partnered with him in Thompson Advanced Dentistry.  She was a devoted wife and mother, spending her time loving and caring for her family.

Kathleen worked at 1st National Bank in Fort Collins, where she was part of the first management training program, completed her CFP, and worked in the wealth management department.  She also did all the financials for their dental practice.   After starting her family, she found her true passion in raising her four beautiful daughters.  She was honored to be a board member of Scroll and Fan and The Women’s Fund of Weld County, where she was blessed by the opportunity to serve others in her community and to establish many wonderful friendships.  In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her family hiking, making cakes, doing crafts, and being on the farm, at the lake, and in the mountains. She dedicated her time to going on adventures, planning vacations, and making creations with her treasured daughters and husband.  She is dearly loved by all her family and friends.

Kathleen is survived by her husband Joseph Thompson; four daughters: Chloe, Breklynn, Claire, and Adley; parents Gary and Deborah Schmer; father- and mother-in-law Chris and Kathy Thompson; grandmothers Jean Swanson, Jody Wegner, and Donna Thompson; siblings Rachel (Curtis) Ellenz, Brian (Vicki) Schmer, Christina (Dusten) Olds, and Elizabeth (Justin) Mentele; brothers-in-law Chad (Sarah) Thompson, Jeff (Emily) Thompson, Seth Thompson, and Trevor Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her grandparents Ervin and Verna Schmer and grandfathers Clyde Shaw, James Wegner, and Gordon Thompson; cousins Justin Shaw and Lindsay Green; and Uncle David Wegner.

A Life Celebration Memorial Service will be held at Christ Community Church in Greeley (1301 15th St, Greeley, CO 80631) July 25th at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow.
