Obituary of Larry Dean Rawlings

Larry Dean Rawlings of Greeley, Colorado passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2022. He was born on February 23, 1954 in Greeley, Colorado to Austin and Velma (Gregory) Rawlings.

 

Larry grew up in Greeley and attended Greeley West High School.  Larry spent some time in California in his younger years and married Kristina (Bishop) Turner on June 25, 1971; they were married 5 years.  He later married Sherry (Sydow) Rawlings in May of 1977; they were married for 10 years.  He then married Kimber (Lennon) Rawlings on January 18, 1992 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. 

 

Larry worked in the flooring business the majority of his life and was a truck driver for a period of time. Larry enjoyed his Rottweiler’s, bowling on leagues with his children, playing softball, riding his motorcycle and spending time barbequing with his family. Larry loved the mountains and enjoyed camping and four-wheeling with his family as often as he could during the summer. He was most at peace when in the mountains.

 

Larry also enjoyed coaching Wrestling, Basketball and Baseball throughout his children’s lives.  In 1983, he founded the Greeley Rebels Wrestling Club where he was head coach until 1986. Throughout the 80’s he also coached for the Greeley Recreation Center, Maplewood Middle School, and the Greeley Wrestling Club. 

 

After retirement, Larry spent his time with his children and grandchildren.

 

Larry is survived by his children, Christy (John) Dixon, their children, Skyler and Lindy Dixon, Jimmy Rawlings, his children, Rachell (Ryan) Salazar, Sadie (Jake) Olivas, Hailly Rawlings, and Rylee Rawlings, Nicholas Rawlings, his children, Kaylie, Mya, and Ronan Rawlings,  Aspin (Justin) Pecor, their children, Kaleb, Robert, Aribella, and Damon Pecor,  Eli Rawlings, his children, Jasper and Kayla Rawlings, and Brandy Nolte, her children, Alexes Grigg and Madison Nolte-Panas, and several great-grandchildren.

 

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Velma Rawlings, his son, Larry Dean Rawlings, his brother, Austin Rawlings, Jr., and his sister, Shirley Bauer, who passed July 20, 2022.

 

Larry's family will hold a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hawkstone Clubhouse, 888 Hawkstone Drive, Eaton, Colorado.  A balloon release to be held at 4:00 p.m.
