Obituary of May Yago

May Yago died peacefully at home on April 23, 2022, in San Mateo, California at the age of 94.

May is survived by five children, Patricia DeBord of Loveland, Margaret (Dave) Zamzow of Ft. Collins, Gerald (Kathy) Yago of San Jose, CA, Nancy (Robert) Chun of San Mateo, CA, Kenneth Yago of Daly City, CA, sister Mary Jane Arakawa of Evans; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  May is also survived by one brother-in-law Jake Yago and wife Martha of Lakewood, CO, one sister-in-law Shiz Yago of Greeley, CO, nieces and nephews and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Yago, sister Grace Yago, daughter Carol Yago and son-in-law Bob DeBord.

May was born on August 6, 1927, in North Platte, Nebraska to Charles Hanzo and Ito (Uyemura) Shinn. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1946.  May worked for the John Petrikan family, who was the President of the First National Bank in Greeley.  She married Jack Yago on February 1, 1959. They eventually bought a house in Kersey, Colorado where they raised their family.  May worked for North Weld Produce and the Paul Hoshiko family for many years. 

May loved to spend time with her family.  May was passionate about playing Shanghai, a card game, and played as often as possible with her family. One of her favorite memories was a Yago family reunion trip to visit Jake and Martha Yago in Chicago.  Seven Yago siblings and their spouses drove from Colorado to Chicago in an RV, playing Shanghai the entire way there.  May loved going to garage sales and secondhand stores.  She loved to collect copperware and kitchen pans.  May was a professional football fan whose favorite season was football season.  May attended Super Bowl 50 and got to see Peyton Manning and Von Miller win in February 2015. She was looking forward to watching one of her favorite players, Russell Wilson, play for the Denver Broncos.  May liked to watch old classic movies and true crime shows. She was an active member of the Greeley Buddhist Church while she lived in Colorado.  

A graveside serivice will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Linn Grove Cemetery. A Life Celebration service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Adamson Life Celebration Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mission Hospice & Homecare at www.MissionHospice.org.
