Obituary of Gus Martinez

Gus Martinez of Evans Colorado was born on March 4th, 1934, to Raphael & Catarina (Ramos) Martinez in Ault Colorado. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 15th, 2022, in Evans Colorado.

Gus married Maria (Mary) Luisa Jojola on September 21, 1953, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where they were lifelong parishioners. Gus and Mary lived in a home he built himself within the Spanish Colony of Greeley. Here they raised their six children and made countless loving memories with generations after.

Gus served the City of Greeley for over 20 years and retired with the Wastewater Treatment Division in 1996. Gus enjoyed tending to his yard, his family, playing guitar, woodworking, serving his church, and watching the Broncos play on Sundays. Gus was a devout man of faith, made clear by his devotion to serving Our Lady of Peace as a Eucharistic Minister and a groundskeeper.

Gus is survived by his children, Roxanne (Richard) Lara, Josie (Wayne) Humphreys, Betty Jean Martinez, Anthony (Amy) Martinez, Carmen Joyce Martinez, and Jeremy Martinez; brother John Martinez; Michael (Mercedes) Lara, Jacqueline (Zane) Johnson and Phillip Lara, Kendra (Brian) Mitchell and Erik Humphreys, Ashley and Ethan Martinez, Tyler, Shelby and Skyler Martinez, and great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Vincent, Easton, Aiden as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gus is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 61 years Mary, and great- grandson Michael James.

 A visitation will be held on Monday the 29th at Adamson Life Celebration home from 6-7PM followed by the rosary at 7PM. The mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace in Greeley on Tuesday the 30th at 10AM, followed by burial at Linn Grove Cemetery at 11:30AM and a reception to follow from 12:30-3:30PM  2600 6th Ave at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
