Obituary of Martin Watkins Thompson
Martin Watkins Thompson, 94 of Greeley, passed away August 25, 2022. He was born April 15, 1928 to Archie Cornelius and Pauline (Watkins) Buchan in Troy, Alabama.
Martin received his B.S. in Business Administration from Auburn University in 1953.
He married JoAnne Mitchell on December 19, 1953, in Griffin, GA.
Martin enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 29, 1950 and received an Honorable Discharge. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988.
Martin worked for Equitable Life Assurance Society, retiring in 1987 as a Division Manager. He was an avid reader, loved to play golf, enjoyed travel and volunteered with numerous organizations. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Masons and Lions Club.
Thankful to have shared his life include his wife, JoAnne, their children; Paula Thompson and Keith (Carol) Thompson, three grandchildren; Matthew Thompson, Robert (Julia) Thompson and Laura Thompson (Victor Short), one great-grandchild, Miles Thompson-Short.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jimmie Lowery; two brothers, Edwin Buchan and Bill Buchans; as well as a great-granddaughter, Gracie Thompson-Short.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in the narthex of First Congregational Church, 2101 16th Street. His Life Celebration will follow at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at Linn Grove Cemetery.
