Obituary of Tom Lee

Thomas Jefferson Lee, 85, of Greeley passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He was born January 16, 1937 in Brush, CO to Roy Earl and Grace Goldie (Goldthorpe) Lee.

Tom graduated from Brush High School in 1955 and then attended Colorado A&M (CSU) for a year. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961 at Nike Missile Base in Orangeburg, NY before an honorable discharge.

In 1960, Tom married Betty Jean Harding in Brush.

Tom worked for the phone company from 1964-1993, retiring as a facilities specialist and then contracted from 1993-1999, as a drafting engineer.

He was involved in Boy Scouts over 20 years, being recognized with the Silver Beaver Award. He was a 52-year member of the Elks Lodge 809, joining November 17, 1971 and served as chaplain from 2010-2021. In retirement, Tom joined the Adamson Funeral Home team, assisting with services for many years.

He loved gardening, traveling, especially cruises, coin collecting, spending time with family and friends and loved attending theater events with his best friend, Ila Leavy. Tom was also an active member of the First Congregational, UCC in Greeley.

Thankful to have shared his life are his sons; Jeffrey (Catherine) Lee of Fort Collins and Randall Lee (Kevin Morello) of Orlando, FL, two grandsons; Boston (Tiffany) and Payton Lee, two sisters; Pat (Ellis) Knoll and Sharon (Rex) Eaves as well as nieces and nephews, his dear friend, Ila and his sweet dog, Jazzy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Lee and a sister, Nancy Lee.

Tom’s Life Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2022 at the First Congregational Church, 2101 16th Street with a reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at the church columbarium. Memorial gifts may be made to “Toys for Tots”, “Women2Women” or “The Nature Conservancy” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
