Obituary of Sue McIver

Loving mother, sister, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, foster mom, counselor, friend, Sue Brown McIver passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 after a short illness.

Born March 19, 1935, in Amarillo, TX to parents Dr. J. Francis Brown and Dorothy Arnold Brown.  She was the oldest sister of Joseph Robert Brown and John Watt Brown, both of Dallas TX.

She was a beloved wife of Gordon McIver for 65 years; mother of Deb Deboutez (Bruce Cooper), Phyllis McIver (Melissa Jamison), Don McIver (Mindy Grossberg), Shannon McIver (Roger Martinez), and Pat Curry Cream (Leah Mitchell); beloved grandmother (Grandma Becky) of Sann Deboutez (Emmis Chelman), Breece Deboutez, and Connor Lyons; and great-grandmother of two.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Joseph.

A graduate of Texas Tech in 1961, she was a counselor who ran alcohol and drug treatment facilities before retiring to see the country by RV for ten years, before settling in Greeley, CO in 2009.  She lived in many cities all over the American west where she was always quick with a greeting and sparking up conversations with strangers.

She loved physical exercise and playing games but especially Bridge.  She volunteered with the “Lunch Bunch” at Cornerstone Community Church for over a decade where she was an active member, and she volunteered in the emergency room at Northern Colorado Medical Center.  She enjoyed the friends she made while volunteering very much.

 Social, she struck up conversations wherever she went and always made an impression with her kind demeanor and gentle ribbing.  She made an indelible mark on everyone she met and is cherished by her family.. 

A Life Celebration will be held, at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9^th Avenue, Greeley.  A private interment was held at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
