Judy Fry posted a condolence
Monday, January 9, 2023
My condolences to Margaret's family. My mom (deceased), Pearl (Lynch) Fry was a childhood friend with Margaret and I heard many stories of the fun times they shared in Milliken. My mom loved to share those tales of visits to the Pickering home and how the friends would spend time together. I also personally knew Margaret. I worked with Margaret in Medical Records at the Greeley Clinic in 1973. I found her to be kind, funny and and a hard working and caring person. She touched the lives of many and will be missed greatly. . Sincerely, Judy Fry

A Tribute to my Bonus Mom- by Cherie Garner
Whether you knew her as Margaret or Maggie; Mom or Maw; Ginnz, Grandma or Great-Grandma, you knew she loved you. I officially joined the family August 13, 1977, when Kevin and I were married. Factor in a couple years of dating, and that means Maggie and I were family for nearly 48 years. As she often told people, I wasn’t her daughter-in-law – I was her daughter. When I bought her Christmas card this year, it was perfect. It said, To One of Us You Are Mom- To the Other You’re a Bonus Mom. To both of us YOU are Amazing! Never a truer word spoken.
Our relationship was perfect, she valued my opinion and often asked me for advice. I learned so much from her. She knew she could count on me to help her with anything and everything. I bought her clothes the last few years when she could no longer get out and shop. No matter what I bought her she loved it! She would tell me and her niece Mardy that she liked when we took her grocery shopping because we let her look… sometimes Kevin was a little impatient.
She loved her family so much! We were so fortunate to live near her. But she loved her Oregon family too! She was so thrilled every time she got a call from Keith, Sherril and Zach; or pictures from Jordan of her little ones. We got to hear every detail, and it warmed our hearts to see her so happy. Their visits were greatly anticipated and never long enough for Maggie. She cherished her last visit with her daughter-in-law Sherril before she passed last year and still spoke lovingly of her.
“Ginnz”, as our boys Jason and Michael lovingly called their grandma, did not miss a chance to attend their ball games. Whether it was soccer, football, hockey or basketball, she was there. But baseball was her favorite! She was right beside us in the bleachers all summer at EVERY baseball game they ever played. When they got older and played softball she was there too. She made it to the dirt track in Fort Morgan a couple times in recent years to see Jason race. It didn’t faze her when it poured rain and we were later splattered with the mud balls. And finally, she was there watching Reese dance and Dillon play soccer, even when it was a chore for her physically get there. She wanted nothing more than to see her great-grandchildren as often as possible. All the boys’ friends knew and loved Ginnz, and she often reminisced about them and enjoyed seeing them occasionally.
I would be remiss, and Maggie would give me heck if I did not mention my Frank family, whom she loved like her own! From my brothers, Roger, Gary, and Ronnie, and their wives Marti and Kara, to all my nephews and niece who only knew her as Grandma Maggie, they were her FAMILY. The “Boys” as she called my brothers, helped her often when she lived in Milliken. They replaced her car’s battery, fixed her flat tires and gave her endless car washes at their station. She so enjoyed watching them harvest their corn and beets, reminding her of the early days when she worked on the farm. While hospitalized, she told me my mom Marilyn, and my Uncle Ed and Aunt Joyce were the last sisters and brother she had living.
In addition to her lifelong friends whom she loved dearly; Maggie added to her collection along the road of life. Starting at Sherwood Village in Greeley, then on to Dove Valley Senior Housing in Milliken, and finally the last five years at Pekview Senior Apartments, her life was full and blessed by everyone who knew her and cherished her.
She was proud that at 93 ½ she could still operate her computer. And not just play solitaire, she surfed the internet for miracle cures for her arthritis. One of her favorite things was keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. She would “Like” every story she read. Not Love, not Hate, not Sad. Just LIKE. Occasionally I would notice she wasn’t “Liking” things on FB, and I knew that was my sign that she had locked up her computer, again. I would say, “Maggie, why didn’t you tell me?” She would just say she didn’t want to bother me. I would get her up and running - until the next time.
She loved working jigsaw puzzles and word search puzzles. I think they kept her mind sharp. One day someone asked her how long she wanted to live. I remember her answer like it was yesterday. She said, “As long as I have my marbles”. Well, I must say Miss Maggie, you won that game of marbles - because you were still sharp as a tack until the day you passed. Maggie could remember names and details of the people from her old Hillside neighborhood where Keith and Kevin grew up 60+ years ago. Kevin often commented that he didn’t remember half of what she did.
After her fall on December 15, she knew what we could not fathom. She was at peace with it. She was ready to go Home to Heaven and see her Grandma and Grandpa who raised her. On one of my visits, she softly said, “Honey, this will be our last Christmas together.” I said, “Oh Maggie don’t say that.” She matter-of-factly looked at me and said, “Honey, you know I can’t live forever.” Well, she was right and wrong. Though she is no longer here in her Earthly body, she will forever be in our hearts and in our memories. And until we meet again, at those Pearly Gates, I will try to be more like Maggie. She didn’t know a stranger, she loved everyone for who they were. She always saw the best in folks and told them so. She didn’t hold a grudge. She didn’t judge - not race, sex, color, age or even past history. God received a great Angel on December 26th.

Oh, Maggie, what will we all do without you. It was our pleasure to know you and especially your son and daughter in law Kevin and Cherie Garner. Thank you for providing me a wonderful assistant at the NBCE for a short time and a friend for life. Also loved knowing Kevin for the Safeway stalwart he was before retirement. We loved knowing you and your family . What a legacy you leave the Greeley and surrounding communities. God Bless you Maggie and your family and may you Rest In Peace!!!
