Obituary of Jose Seberiano Olivas Sr.

Jose Sebriano Olivas Ruacho, Sr., 91, of Greeley passed away on December 31, 2022 in Greeley.  Jose, was born April 14,1931 in Chihuahua, Coronado Mexico.

He came to the United States as a farm worker in the 50’s with the Bracero Program. He worked hard for many years in the surrounding farm towns near Greeley and Loveland Colorado. Here he met his wife, Elvira Olivas. They were married in Johnstown CO in 1952 by the Justice of the Peace. It is here in the United States where they remained. They worked hard to buy a home and raise their family, living the American Dream. 

Jose was a hardworking man, dedicated husband and father, driven to perfection in all that he did.  Jose’s love for this country drove him to study to become a citizen of the United States. In May of 2000 he received his citizenship.

Jose excelled in the following jobs and hobbies; carpentry and master builder (13 years), gardening (best Green Chili, Strawberry, Cucumber, Zucchini and Tomato - ever!), woodworking design.  In his younger days he enjoyed horseback riding and would often tell his kids stories about his bronco riding days. He retired from Hewlitt Packard in Loveland after working there for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elvira Olivas, daughters; Mary (Glenn) Santistevan, Olivia Olivas, and Guille (Greg) Farnham, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his 2 sons; Jose S. Olivas, Jr. and Tom W. Olivas

A visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. followed by his Life Celebration at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Adamson.  Cremation will follow the service.  A reception will be held in the Adamson Reception Center.
