Obituary of Thurman "Bill" Lewis Thompson

Thurman "Bill" Lewis Thompson 08/09/1942 – 01/28/2023

Thurman Lewis Thompson, known to most as “Bill”, 80, of Platteville, CO, passed away on January 28, 2023, from complications due a strenuous but courageous 10-year battle with cancer. Bill is at peace now because he knew the Lord. His greatest wish at this time in his life was for others to know the promise of Jesus’ salvation for each of us.

Bill was born 08/09/1942 in Columbus, OH. After serving in the Army, Bill married Molly Stewart and together they had a son, Billy, and a daughter, Brenda. Unfortunately, they lost a baby girl at birth. Bill and Molly later divorced.

Bill met and fell in love with Lois Ann Hatch (Bain) in the fall of 1978 and they were married January 19, 1979. Bill tried his hand in many different jobs through the years, a “Jack of all trades”, he would say. He graduated from high school with a GED and from refrigeration school in 1988. Bill worked as a truck driver, equipment operator, construction worker, and in refrigeration. He became very resourceful in using learned skills and materials he had available to build him and his wife a beautiful property, they lovingly called “The Tiny T Ranch”, est. 1991 in Evans, CO. Bill loved to tinker, create, and fix things. He dabbled in autobody and painting work, woodworking, electrical repair, and home remodeling, just to name a few.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his stepfather, sister and brothers, a baby girl daughter at birth, and his son, Billy. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois Ann, his son Billy’s children and grandchildren in Colorado and in Texas, eldest daughter, Brenda (Jamie) St. Vincent of Buckeye, AZ, and their two children, three grandchildren and a great granddaughter, eldest stepson, Jason (Andrea) Hatch of Johnstown, CO and their two sons and families in Washington state including another great grandchild on the way, youngest step daughter, Jaymi (Cory) Nickell of Greeley, CO and their two children and grandson in Colorado and Florida. Bill was blessed to surround himself with the love of friends and family in person and virtually, who supported him in his final days. Bill celebrated nine grandchildren, ten, soon to be eleven great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.

On January 17, 2023 Bill and Lois Ann renewed their marriage vows in an intimate setting, while listening to the recording of their 1979 wedding ceremony and reminiscing with their wedding photos. They celebrated 44 years of marriage on January 19, 2023, grateful they arrived at that moment together.
