Obituary of Mary Newman

Mary Newman, 95, of Ault passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 24, 2023. Mary was born in Grinnell, KS on September 6, 1927 to Mike and Pauline Geist.

Mary grew up in Kansas. On April 17, 1950, she married Howard Newman in Hoxie, KS and they were married for 54 years. The family moved to Greeley in 1959 and later moved to Ault where she was a cook at Highland High School for 22 years and a substitute cook for 21 years.

Mary was an avid traveler, visiting 14 countries and 34 states. This is impressive considering she took her first airplane flight at 77 years old! She also loved to cook and sew. Mary was a member of the Red Hat Society for 19 years and volunteered at Union Colony Civic Center for 26 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Howard and her daughter Jackie Lebsack. She is survived by her daughter Polly Barnhart and husband Bob, son Chuck Newman and wife Birdie, six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John Geist and wife Irene, and sister Dorothy Kramer.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 3, at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 267 East 4^th Street, Ault, CO 80610. Interment will follow at the Ault Cemetery.
