Gene H. Rempel, 79, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora CO following a hard fought battle with congestive heart failure.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Karen (Johnson) Rempel; his daughter, Kelly (Rempel) Miles and her husband Raymond Miles of Las Vegas, NV; his son, Brad Rempel and his wife Hope (Yates) Rempel of Greeley, CO; two grandchildren, Dax Rempel and Chloe (Rempel) White; 3 step grandchildren, Katie (Miles) Boyd, Johnathan Miles, and Cristy Miles; 2 great grandchildren, Isom and Hadley White; 2 step great grand children, Jackson and Logan Boyd; his sister Audrey Rempel (Don) Feldhaus; as well as his 2 brothers who preceded him in death Jim (Carol) Rempel, and Earnest (Pauline) Rempel, along with  many nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Born and raised in Greeley, the son of Victor and Mildred (Loos) Rempel, he was a lifelong resident of LaSalle and Greeley, CO

In his early years, after graduating from Greeley High School in 1962, Gene served in the U.S. Army in Anchorage AK.  He met and then married his wife Karen in 1967. After his service in the Army, Gene had the opportunity to join the Greeley Power Company working with the crews, and eventually retired in the position of engineering manager after 32 years. In 1999, Gene went to work with his son Brad at Rempel Contracting, building custom homes around the Greeley area and beyond for 20 years. He not only took pride in and was passionate about his work, but truly relished the friends he made during his time working at the two companies.

Mr. Rempel had a passion for serving his community and served on the LaSalle Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, including serving as President and as a member of the District Board.  In addition to the dangerous and heroic part of being a firefighter, Gene also ran on, then later coached the Fire Department Racing Team. Gene was also a member of the original LaSalle Jaycees, starting the Annual Easter Egg Hunt that is still a tradition in LaSalle.  He volunteered his time for his children including coaching little league soccer, softball, and Cub Scout Leader.  Gene also gave Greeley of his time to support charities that affected his friends and family, including Zack’s Legacy, a foundation to help families experiencing childhood cancer.

Gene loved fly fishing more than almost anything and spent as much time as possible doing so. In his words, “Eat, drink, and fish”!  He also loved sports, hunting, playing poker, and spending time with family & friends.
