Erlinda Sendejo

Obituary of Erlinda Sendejo

Herlinda Sendejo was born on June 21, 1931 in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Epifanio Canela and Anita Talamantes.

Linda was raised in Crystal City, Texas along with her 7 siblings. She helped her family by working in their family-owned bakery, Canelas Bakery, where they made a variety of pastries. In 1966, she was married to Gregorio Sendejo and moved to Washington State where they resided until moving to their permanent residence in Weld County Colorado in 1968.

Linda has always been a hard worker in the food industry. She was very passionate about cooking. She was a cook in several restaurants here in Weld County and on her days off from work, she would cook a big lunch for her husband Greg, but she always made enough for her family to come enjoy at noon. We all loved her Menudo, Green Chile, and, in our opinion, the best Fried Chicken in town. Pete from Moreno’s Restaurant used to call and ask her advice for recipes, he would say “hey Linda what ingredient is missing?”

At the age of 77 Linda retired from El Gallito Bar. After retiring, Linda was able to spend more time with her loved ones. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and attending their special events when she got an invitation. She would invite her grandkids over for breakfast before school, she would make atole, bacon, and biscuits. It was always the best breakfast before school.

The doors were always open to family and friends, whether we just needed a quick nap, something to eat, or a little laugh. When Grandma had not seen us for a while, she would look at us with a confused look and say, “who are you?” And jokingly laugh about how it’s been a long time.

Linda loved to read, you could always find her reading the newspaper and having a cup of coffee. She always had a little more info than the actual Tribune itself. In the early afternoon if you stopped by, she would be watching her Telenovelas and made sure to fill you in on the latest story line.

Linda was a member of Our Lady of Peace and St. Mary’s Catholic Church here in Greeley. She did her best to not miss Sunday Mass even if she had to walk because her ride was late.

Linda always listened and offered great advice even if it was blunt, she kept it honest and real, but with love. If you made her mad, you would get what us grand kids call “The Grandma Linda Pinch” if you didn’t get pinched, you could count yourself as lucky. She touched so many lives and shared many stories with her grandchildren about her childhood and growing up. She enjoyed going to Mother Cabrini, the Flea Market, shopping, traveling, and having lunch with her family.

Every year for Thanksgiving, we all knew we could stop by Grandmas to eat because she would have a big feast to share.

Linda is survived by her children, Anna (Mary) Aldava-Chavez, Richard Munoz, Robert Munoz, Ruben Sendejo, Susie Salazar, Virginia Sendejo, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Gregorio Sendejo, her son Raul C. Munoz, her daughter Diane Garcia, and her grand-daughter Lisa Garcia.

To her kids: She showed you love in different ways, she may have acted like she didn’t care if you were mad or didn’t visit, but she did. You could always tell by the way she asked about you.

To her Grandkids: Grandma Linda loved you all, whether she saw you a lot or just a little. Her heart was big and she was always happy to hear that we were doing good. You had the pleasure of knowing her for a long time, now you get to share those memories with your children.
