Obituary of Alan Lee Chittenden
Alan Lee (Al) Chittenden,70, of Kersey, passed away at home after a brief illness on January 12, 2024. Al was born January 5, 1954, in Lexington, NE to Arvilla Chittenden (Courter) and Kenneth Chittenden.
Al grew up in rural Cozad, Nebraska. At age 12, his uncle Jim Chittenden took him in, raising him as his own. He graduated in 1972 from Sumner High School in Sumner, NE. During high school, he excelled at wrestling and football. He was an excellent student with a perfect attendance record.
In 1975, Al married Nancy Forney. They had two children, Carmen Shively and Kevin Chittenden, and later divorced.
Al married Jane Schott in December 2010, adding to his family two bonus daughters, Stacy Long and Jennifer Hesslink, and son-in-law, Chris Long.
After moving to Kersey in 1976, Al worked as an ASE Certified Master Mechanic for over 40 years, spending much of his career with Monfort/Conagra, the City of Greeley, JBS, Herbst Farms, and Centennial Ag/Helena until his retirement in October 2023.
Al was an avid fan of Nebraska Cornhusker football, the Colorado Avalanche, NASCAR, and WWE. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and demolition derby. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvilla and Kenneth; Uncle Jim Chittenden; and sister Barb Blair.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; children Carmen Shively, son-in-law Sean Archuleta, Kevin Chittenden, Stacy Long, son-in-law Chris Long, and Jennifer Hesslink; grandchildren McKenna Shively, Haleigh Archuleta, Tyson McCabe, and Jayden McCabe; great-grandchild Lacey Spotts; sister Carla Roberts, brother-in-law Joe Roberts; nephew Brad; lifelong friends Darwin and Deb Crawford; and in-laws Albert and Mary Schott.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 on Monday, January 22 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado, with a Celebration of Life at 11:00, and a reception to follow.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Adamson’s Life Celebration Home.
