Obituary of Alice Joan Johnston

Alice "Joan" Johnston, 92 of Greeley, Colorado passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 after a short stay at Fairacres Manor in Greeley.

Joan was born to E.O. “Steve” and Garnet Stevens of Hudson, Colorado and raised on a farm with two brothers and one sister. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1948. She attended Colorado State University for one year. In 1950 she married Albert Johnston in Raton, New Mexico. Together they raised Steve, Vicki, and Nancy in Keenesburg for 12 years and then moved to Greeley.

In the early 70’s, she became a licensed real estate agent. Over her 35-year career she worked at Ray Larson Real Estate, Sears Realtors, and eventually partnering to form New Horizons Real Estate. Joan advanced her education and earned her brokers license and GRI designation.

Joan, with her special friend Larry Besack, enjoyed cruises within Europe, Russia, and Alaska. She treasured the chance to travel to numerous other places with family and friends. Other interests included golf, bridge, mahjong, supporting the performing arts, and attending Kream of the Krop concerts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al Johnston, brothers Jack and Jerry Stevens, and sister Janice Norrish. She is survived by her special friend Larry Besack, son Steve Johnston, daughter Vicki (Tom) Ericson, daughter Nancy (Art) Beckman, Grandchildren; Jeremy Johnston, Cameron (Frank) Kennedy, Tad (Erika Fortner) Ericson, Katie (Josh) Whalen, Jason (Logan) Beckman and Scott (Emily) Beckman, Great grandchildren; Freya Fortner, Logan Whalen, Tyce Beckman, Landon Beckman, Hayden Beckman, and Connor Beckman.

Finally, the family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses, CNA’s and care staff at Bright Star, Fairacres Manor, under Accent Hospice for the compassionate care Joan received. 

Joan’s Life Celebration Open House will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Adamson.  Private family inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to “First United Methodist Church of Greeley” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.  Condolences may be shared at AdamsonCares.com.
