Obituary of Gary Don Carlton

Gary Don Carlton, 65, of Greeley, Colorado passed away February 13, 2024 at Columbine Commons in Windsor. He was born on February 10, 1959 in Midland, Texas to Billie R. and Oveita M. (Tharp) Carlton.  

Gary grew up in Snyder, TX where he graduated high school and went on to Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelors degree in Computer Science.  

On June 4, 1983, he married Kelly Ann Carl in Mineola, TX and they later moved to Colorado, settling in Greeley.  

Gary was a software engineer for Hewlett-Packard. An avid fly fisherman who also tied his own flies, Gary enjoyed traveling with family and friends on fishing and camping adventures. He also enjoyed cooking and storytelling. An accomplished woodworker, in addition to furniture, Gary not only crafted his own long  bows and fly rods, he built a wood-hulled drift boat named Tight Lines. He also practiced Karate and yoga.  

Gary is survived by his wife, Kelly Ann Carlton, his brother, Dennis (Mary) Carlton and two nieces; Lisa (Mathew) Moss and Shara Carlton (Tristan Young) as well as a great nephew, J.D. Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Gary's Life Celebration open house will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Adamson Life Celebration Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to "The Next Generation Fund of the Rocky Mountain Conservancy" (rmconservancy.org) or in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.  Condolences may be shared at AdamsonCares.com.
